VoIP, or Voice Over Internet Protocol, is
a system which allows the send of real-time audio communication over IP
networks, i.e. the Internet. In a traditional telephone system, calls
are directed through an in-house PBX system. With VoIP, calls are made
through TCP/IP using routers and networks. So, instead of using regular
telephone lines, VoIP uses the existing network and the internet to
place and receive calls.
Using the power of the Internet, VoIP phone systems
easily does things that are difficult to impossible with traditional
phone networks. Providing that the Internet connection is of good
quality, calls are much clearer than the traditional phone call and
will allows multiple calls to be received at a time without having to
tie up the lines as busy. In addition, you can have multiple phones
connected to the same network, even if it isn’t physically in the same
location.
